Shungite is unlike any other stone. Black, with a slightly metallic luster, it is found in only one place on earth — the village of Shunga in Karelia, Russia — and it is believed to be approximately two billion years old, making it one of the most ancient organic substances ever found. What Is Shungite?
Shungite is a carbon-based mineraloid composed primarily of carbon in a complex molecular structure including fullerene molecules (also called buckyballs). Scientists and crystal healers alike recognize it for properties that few other natural materials possess. There are three grades: Elite (or Noble) Shungite is the purest and rarest form (silver-black and highly lustrous), Type II Shungite is dense and suitable for carving, and Type III Shungite is the most common form used in chips and raw pieces.

For water purification, add genuine elite shungite chips to a glass or ceramic vessel of water, allow to sit for 48 to 72 hours, then use as drinking water.
